Her real name is April Jeanette Mendez but most fans know her as WWE wrestler A.J. Lee, three-time Divas Championship winner and Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Woman of the Year from 2012 to 2014. This Jersey girl made her debut in her home state’s independent wrestling circuit in 2007 and moved to Florida’s Championship Wrestling branch when she signed with the WWE in 2009. She appeared on the broadcasts WWE Summerslam, WWE Smackdown!, and WWE Raw multiple times, but ended up retiring from the sport in 2015. Since then A.J.’s written a best-selling memoir, 2017’s Crazy Is My Superpower, and became an executive producer of WOW - Women of Wrestling. A.J. has also partnered with actress Aimee Garcia to write the comic book series GLOW vs. The Babyface, a Dungeons & Dragons limited series, and the 2022 Netflix film Blade of the 47 Ronin, while on her own she wrote the first issue of a comic miniseries for Wonder Woman. But all her success outside the ring couldn’t stop her from donning some spandex and showing off her pro wrestling moves once more on the drama series Heels in 2023.
