Peter Shaffer’s acclaimed play and the subsequent Oscar-winning film get the miniseries treatment from Starz, casting Paul Bettany as court composer Antonio Salieri and Will Sharpe as musical prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart’s arrival in Vienna is the catalyst for the jealous Salieri’s fall from grace. Once favored by the Emperor (Rory Kinnear), Salieri’s work is dwarfed by Mozart’s obvious genius, even with royal critiques like “too many notes.” Mozart pushes the envelope, writes operas set in brothels (The Abduction from the Seraglio) and ones based on banned books (The Marriage of Figaro) with scores so catchy it’s as if God is speaking through Mozart’s immense talent, instead of through Salieri as he once believed. This perceived rejection sends Salieri down a dark path where he abandons the church for kinky dalliances with ladies of ill repute like Lucy Chappell, who slips some areola while they are in bed. But the hard-partying Mozart is also plagued by his mother’s death and past trauma from his overbearing father, Leopold (Jonathon Aris), which is affecting his relationship with his wife, Constanze (Gabrielle Creevy). Salieri decides to use Mozart’s daddy issues against him in order to lead him to an early grave - or is connecting himself to Mozart’s death just a way to keep himself relevant? Either way, Lucy’s overspilling boobage is sure to please your Magic Flute!
