This prequel series to the hit comedy Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon presupposes this: what if when the bubbly, pink-obsessed Elle Woods struggled to fit in within the hallowed halls of Harvard, it wasn’t actually her first time as a fish out of water? Does it really make sense, considering Elle’s character arc in the original film? No. But that’s not going to stop Amazon from trying to capture the film’s magic and harness the audience’s feelings of nostalgia. We’re introduced to Elle (now played by Lexi Minetree) at her sweet sixteen birthday party in 1995, readying to embark on a junior year of high school in sunny Los Angeles that she hopes will include equal doses of cheerleading and romance. But those hopes are dashed away when her plastic surgeon father (Tom Everett Scott) botches a nose job and has to relocate the family to dreary, drizzly Seattle. Fully in their grunge period, Elle’s new fellow classmates don’t know what to make of her, but, as in the film, she eventually is able to use her general kindness and fashion knowledge to prove herself to everyone. As far as the sexiness of the series goes, Lexi gives Reese a run for her money when it comes to rocking a pink bikini, and we get to see Chandler Kinney and Gabrielle Policano share a few sapphic smooches. To quote Elle herself, “What, like it’s hard?” If you’re referring to our crotches, the answer is yes!
