Everyone and their MILF knows that Christopher Nolan's epic The Odyssey is released in theaters this weekend, July 17th, and we're celebrating the hotly anticipated sure-fire blockbuster with a look at the sexiest stars from The Odyssey in their previous nude roles! The Odyssey Controversy Explained
First, why has Christopher Nolan's version of The Odyssey been so controversial? The most heated debate concerned casting. The star-studded film features Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Charlize Theron as Calypso, and Zendaya as Athena. Critics objected to casting Nyong'o, a Black actress, as Helen of Troy, and to casting transgender actor Elliot Page as the warrior Sinon, with some incorrectly assuming Page was playing Achilles.
People also object to the flick’s use of dialogue and language, with viewers criticizing the American accents and modern phrasing that seem out of place in an ancient epic. Nolan has cited classicist Emily Wilson's plain-language 2017 translation as an influence, and Wilson herself faced accusations online of introducing a revisionist, feminist slant into her rendering of the text.
And then there’s the costume design. Audiences compared Agamemnon's matte-black helmet to Batman's getup, arguing it looks out of place in a Bronze Age setting. Nolan again defended his choice, noting armor could plausibly have been made from "blackened bronze."

Samantha Morton as Circe (Went Topless in Morvern Callar)
Finally, Nolan recently revealed that Samantha gave a powerhouse performance as Circe, even comparing it to Heath Ledger's turn as The Joker. Circe is a Greek goddess and enchantress who turns many of Odysseus's men into pigs when they arrive on the island of Aeaea.
