Freudian family dynamics are given a bizarre new twist in Stepmonster (1993), a horror movie that tackles domestic dysfunction from an extreme new angle. Billy Corben stars as Todd Dougherty, an over-imaginative teen who can’t manage to effectively convince his pops (Alan Thicke) that his wife-to-be (Robin Riker) is actually a flesh-eating monster. At first it seems like Todd’s got a bad case of missing mom, but when evidence begins piling up in his favor, Dad must take a hard second look. Not only is Riker a carnivorous creep, her timing is terrible––her appearance causes her stepson some unfortunate coitus interruptus, thereby spoiling things for viewers hoping to scope Ami Dolenz in the buff.
