The Idea of You (2024)

Robinne Lee’s alleged Harry Styles-inspire fan-fiction has been brought to the silver screen care of Michael Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer, Spoiler Alert, etc) and Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein, Friends with Kids, Jon Hamm’s ex). Anne Hathaway stars as Solene, a 40-year-old mom of a teenager trying to co-parent with an ex (Reid Scott) who has left her for the dimpled, big boho hat-wearing Perry Mattfeld. After planning to take their daughter and her friends to Coachella, he ends up getting called away on business to Houston last minute and takes his lady with him, leaving Solene to chaperone in his place. At the music festival, while looking for the bathroom, she accidentally wanders into the trailer of Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), a member of the hugely successful Brit boy band, August Moon. The young buck is instantly smitten and after serenading her onstage, shows up at the art gallery where she works. With her daughter going away to summer camp, there’s nothing to stop Solene from accepting Hayes’s invitation to join him on the band’s European tour. But despite their whirlwind passion, the difference in their ages and lives in general can’t be ignored. Anne enjoys herself while she can, especially when the two get it on in a hotel room, but doesn’t deliver the goods. We do get a lot of the Oscar winner in undies and bikinis though, hitting the idea home that 40 is still fabulous!
