Looking for a nice Hawaiian punch? Say Aloha to Kelly Hu. This Asian American, karate-chopping hottie grew up in Honolulu and caught the bug for action-packed thug movies when she was a wee pre-teen. Between running barefoot and eating tons of Spam, Kelly worshiped Jackie Chan flicks, practicing moves with her brother on the beach. She earned a brown belt, becoming so skillful that her bro arranged fights between his sis and the neighborhood boys. The outcome? "Let's just say he made a lot of money off of me," Kelly said. Trading karate kicks for curtsies and waves, she became the first Asian American Miss Teen USA and then Miss Hawaii. She modeled abroad, finally moving to L.A. to appear in commercials for Vidal Sassoon and Dole Pineapple. Growing up and out, she played Kirk Cameron's gal pal on a Hawaiian vacation episode of Growing Pains. That led to parts on series such as The Bold and the Beautiful and Nash Bridges and films such as The Doors (1991) and Surf Ninjas (1993). Tired of playing the "pretty Asian" girl, Kelly started hitting below the belt. To fill the ferocious femme-fighter role on the TV series Martial Law, the director decided that Hu-know-who would be perfect. Cunning at kicking ass, Kelly did The Scorpion King (2002) with The Rock (who was undoubtedly harder than usual around the scantily clad cutie). Ms. Hu's heinie made an appearance or two. Recently Kelly starred in X2 (2003) as Lady Deathstrike, the sexy, steel-clawed nemesis of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine character.
