Many have noted that Clarice has a face and figure that make her “come across as a woman who could readily belong in a more modern age” which explains why there are people out there questioning the validity of her one and only role in the 1927 erotic exploitation film Forbidden Daughters. But as confirmed in The History of Sex and Cinema, Clarice is indeed the star of this rare early 19th-century work where she and a host of other actresses bare all. She plays Alva, the wife of a wealthy artist who has abandoned her for the naked princess of a lost African tribe. When she travels abroad to find him, she encounters even more unfettered nudity and it gives her the confidence to strip down too and give her husband the ultimate ultimatum. We don’t know much about this provocative pioneer other than what is captured on film but she’ll always have a place as one of the sexiest sirens of the silent era.
